Intro to Embroidery - (Iowa City)

REGISTER HERE

Join Shannon Downey (aka Badass Cross Stitch and author of Let's Move the Needle: an activism handbook for artists, crafters, creatives, and makers) to learn everything you need to know to start stitching staggering works of genius.

Shannon will teach you about embroidery materials, how to get set up to stitch, working with patterns or designing your own pieces, and a handful of stitches to get you off and running.

This workshop is designed to make your experience as a beginner accessible, fun, and pressure-free.

Shannon is famous for her embroidery designs that combine craft and activism. Consider this workshop an opportunity to develop a message you want to express to the world, or plan to use a provided design.

Folks can bring their own craft supplies* and we will provide 20 embroidery kits on a first-come-first-served basis.

For teens and adults.

*Recommended supplies, if you have them already:

  • an embroidery hoop (around 5-7")

  • a piece of light colored cotton fabric
