Bystander Intervention Training

Part of a new training series I am launching - How to be a good human - will focus on providing community members free trainings provided by experts to support you in the development of hard skill sets for being a better human.

The first in this series are Bystander Intervention Trainings provided by Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago.

There are 4 training sessions being offered. Please register for one.

About this training:

Anti-Asian/American and xenophobic harassment are on the rise across the US -- and the world. In this virtual Zoom workshop sponsored by Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago, CAIR Chicago, and Hollaback!, you'll learn how you can intervene effectively as a bystander without compromising your safety.

This one-hour, interactive training will teach you Hollaback!'s 5D's of bystander intervention methodology. We'll start by talking about the types of discrimination that Asian and Asian American folks are facing right now - from microaggressions to violence. You'll then learn what to look for and the positive impact that bystander intervention has on individuals and communities.

We'll talk through five strategies for intervention: distract, delegate, document, delay, and direct; and how to prioritize your own safety while intervening. At the end of our practice scenarios, and you'll leave feeling more confident intervening the next time you see Anti-Asian/American harassment.

A note:

These trainings are free, HOWEVER, I remind you to not let allow the capitalist mindset to kick-in. These are VALUABLE and IMPORTANT. Many people are putting a lot of time into offering these for you. In fact, they are SO valuable and important, we won’t allow money to get in the way of access. Everyone should know how to be an active bystander. Therefore, if you reserve a spot, I expect you to show up. If you cannot make it for some reason after you register, I expect you to release your spot so someone else can attend. Cool? Cool.
